Jessica Stumph, DVM CVA, cAVCA

Jessica was born in Latrobe, PA, but she has called Kitty Hawk her home for the last thirty five years. Dr. Stumph graduated from Manteo High School before attending Averett University where she double majored in biology and equine studies, graduating with honors. She then attended North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine, where she again graduated with honors. Her dream was to one day own her own veterinary practice and now First Flight Veterinary Hospital is a reality. She spends her spare time looking after her own batch of critters including two horses, Mario and Raphael, one cat, Bear, and her two dogs, Mayzzy and Re-Pete. Dr Jess is an avid equestrian and she spends many weekends away showing her Quarter Horse, Raphi.  She loves spending time with her husband David, collecting sea glass, rooting for her Pittsburgh Steelers, and tending to the farm which includes riding her tractor.

James Cohagan, DVM

Dr. James Cohagan graduated from Penn State University in 1980 and Purdue University Veterinary School in 1984. After working in Ohio and Maryland he moved to southern Pennsylvania and opened his own practice in 1989. After thirty-three years he sold his practice to a trusted associate and he and his wife moved to the Outer Banks in February 2022. He has many years of experience with both companion and farm animals. "I am grateful to have been accepted into the community and the First Flight Family." We call Dr Jim our Dr James Herriot Cohagan.  Dr Jim is truly a special veterinarian that always goes the extra mile for all of his patients no matter how big or small.  Dr Jim shares his home with his amazing wife Cindy and his amazing pups, Buddy the most handsome Australian Shepherd and Nala the most perfect Golden Retriever.  Dr. Jim enjoys all outdoor activities including fishing, hiking, kayaking and biking.​

Kristine Rook, DVM

Kristine Rook grew up in Ohio and is a proud graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. (The shouting you hear on football Saturdays is her cheering on her Buckeyes.) She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1992.  After rethinking her childhood dream of being an Olympic swimmer (you have to get face wet?), she settled on veterinary medicine as a career in second grade, and she has never regretted that decision. She is passionate about making pets feel better by making their mouths healthy and pain-free through proper dental care. She is also fascinated by how dogs and cats learn and interact with people. In her free time, Dr. Rook loves spending time with her husband, Julius, and their 2 dogs: Freddie (Mercury) and Lena the wonder poodle. She is currently involved in the dog sports of agility, rally and obedience. She also has two wonderful human children. She also knits, reads and watches birds any chance she gets. She loves musicals and any movie with Cary Grant. So far she has a perfect record of keeping one New Year’s Resolution: not to run a marathon, or in fact run anywhere​.

Julia 
In Field Manager

Julia is a native to the Outer Banks and is currently enrolled in veterinary technician school to further her career in veterinary medicine. She enjoys spending time at her farm with her horse DunDee. donkey Burrito, goats, pigs, and chickens.
At home she spends her downtime with her cat, Hank, and her amazing pups Rhett and Sally Meatball.

Eden 
Office Manager

Eden, a native to the Outer Banks graduated from First Flight High School in 2011. From there she obtained her bachelor degree in biology from East Carolina University. (Go Pirates!) She started her veterinary career in 2014 and has been with First Flight Vet and Dr. Jess since kickoff. She also figuratively adopted a quarter horse named Darin.​

Carly
Technician Lead

Carly is a veterinary assistant that is native to Manns Harbor. She graduated from Manteo High School and then went on to receive her B.S. in Environmental Science from NC Wesleyan College. Outside of work you'll find Carly studying to obtain her veterinary technician degree, spending time her husband Zach (probably at a baseball field), or going on an adventure with her daughter, Adeline, or pups, Gander and Oakley. 

Kaitlyn
​Veterinary Assistant

Kaitlyn is a graduate of Manteo high school and is currently dual enrolled in vet tech school and completing course work to obtain her Associates degree. She plans to pursue vet school. Kaitlyn enjoys working and practicing on all animals. In her free time ("if I have it"), she likes to be with her horse Koe or her dog Winston, or doing photography.

Kim
​Client Relations

Kim brings over twenty years experience to our team. Growing up in the Army, she and her father travelled and lived all around the world. Her love of horses began with her first pony, Midnight Star, while living in Bangkok, Thailand. She graduated from Southern Seminary Junior College, where she studied Equestrian Studies with her horse Count Sahara. After finally settling in Point Harbor, Kim began working in the veterinary field. Kim lives with her dog, Harbour, and seven fun an mischievous cats. She has always loved traveling and swimming. ​

Angie

Angie has lived here since 1986. She is a graduate from Manteo High School and has been in the veterinary industry for 4 years. She loves motorcycle riding, fishing, getting tattoos, and spending time with her family.  Angie has two children and a grandson that she loves to spoil.  Angie has 2 dogs and a cat and loves feeding her deer friends.​​

Heather
Veterinary Assistant

Heather is currently enrolled in Penn Foster and is working towards her registered veterinary technician degree. She loves going to the beach and horse shows on the weekends with her horse, Petey. ​​

Nicole
Veterinary Assistant

Nicole just completed her first year at North Carolina State University.  Nikki is passionate about the care and wellbeing of animals and plans on pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. Aside from working at the clinic, she enjoys spending her free time with all of her animals.​

Megan
Veterinary Assistant

Megan is finishing high school at North Carolina Virtual Academy while also dual enrolled at the College of the Albemarle.  This fall (2024), Megan plans on starting veterinary technician school. She is passionate about animals and has experience Volunteering at the Corolla Wild Horse Fund helping rehabilitate and care for the rescued banker horses. In her free time, she enjoys spending  time hanging out with her family and her dachshund Charlie. 

Brandon
​Veterinary Assistant

Brandon is currently a high school senior and is still deciding where he wants to attend college this fall. Outside of work and school he enjoys spending time with his two dogs and at Dream Haven Farm. Brandon plans on pursuing a career in veterinary medicine when he finishes college.

Rhett
Corporate Mascot (Active)

Short for "Cigarette," Rhett lives a rough and tumble life style. While he will always present himself professionally at the clinic, he has a wild side and is not afraid to run with a ruff crowd. Whether at home or at South Bitch, he is unafraid to be himself. We could all take our cues from this good boy. ​

Janessa
​​Veterinary Assistant

Janessa grew up in Central New Jersey and has called Currituck County home for the past 12 years.  She brings nearly 20 years of experience from the equine, animal welfare, and veterinary technician industries.  Between working at various clinics, animal shelters, and horse farms, she founded Southern Hope Animal Rescue and Education 10 years ago.  She now juggles working at FFVH part-time, while maintaining SHARE and her own personal pets.

David Stumph
Practice Manager

David was born in Annapolis, Maryland, but grew up in Kill Devil Hills. He went to Manteo High School, where he met his high school sweetheart Jessica. After high school, David graduated from Averett University with a degree in Chemistry.  He then gained his PharmD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Eshelman School of Pharmacy. David has worked locally as a pharmacist since 2007. His hobbies include travelling with his wife, helping take care of all the critters, reading every once in a while, and "keeping it classy."

Guacamole
Corporate Mascot (Retired)

Having grown tired of the rat race, Guacamole has retired from being the corporate mascot of FFVH. Guac never got into the mascot game to build up a nest egg. He just loved horsing around with all of his friends at the clinic. On one of those dog days of summer 2022, Guac took the bull by the horns and walked away from all the glory. (We heard, straight from the horse's mouth, that he's shacked up with one of his former co-workers.) He spends his days now taking cat naps (literal) and working towards his life-long goal: killing two birds with one stone.​

Prof. Mayzzy
"Top Dog"

The heart and soul of the operation, Professor Mayz loves spending her spare time chasing horses, barking at strange noises, and getting belly rubs. Voted the cutest staff member for the last 6 years running.
